Illogan Parish Council was re-established in March 1985 and has served the community ever since. As a statutory local authority created under the Local Government Act 1972, the Council is made up of 14 elected or co-opted Councillors, including the Chairman, who work together to represent the interests of residents across the parish.

Serving the Community

The Council represents the whole parish and works to improve local services, facilities, and the quality of life for everyone who lives, works, and visits the area. Councillors meet regularly to discuss community matters, make decisions, and set priorities for the parish.

As part of its responsibilities, the Council:

  • Sets and monitors its annual budget
  • Manages local assets and community facilities
  • Develops policies and procedures in line with legislation
  • Ensures public funds are spent lawfully and provide value for money
  • Supports projects and initiatives that benefit the local community

The Parish and Council Offices

Illogan Parish Council serves a predominantly rural area located between Camborne and Redruth. The Council is based at the Illogan Parish Council Community Office on Trevelyan Road, Illogan, where all Council and Committee meetings are held in the community room.

The Council employs a full-time Clerk and a part-time Assistant to the Clerk. It also works with a range of contractors to deliver services and maintain parish facilities.

What We Do

The Council currently:

  • Owns and manages Illogan Park
  • Leases and manages Manningham Wood
  • Maintains parish open spaces, amenities, and community assets
  • Carries out footpath maintenance under contract with Cornwall Council
  • Acts as a consultee on local planning applications
  • Organises community events, including the Illogan Fun Day and Christmas Lights Switch-On celebrations

Parish Wards

Illogan Parish is divided into three wards:

  • Illogan Ward – represented by 9 Councillors
  • Tehidy Ward – represented by 3 Councillors
  • Park Bottom Ward – represented by 2 Councillors

Together, these fourteen Councillors ensure all areas of the parish are represented in local decision-making.

Council Meetings

The municipal year runs from 1 April to 31 March.

  • Full Council Meetings are usually held on the third Wednesday of each month (except December, when the meeting may be held on the second Wednesday).
  • Climate, Environment, and Planning Committee meetings are generally held on the first and third Wednesdays of each month, excluding May and December.
  • Other committees meet throughout the year as required.

Meeting agendas, minutes, and schedules are available on the Council website.

Governance and Accountability

The Council operates in accordance with legislation, established good practice, and its own adopted policies and procedures. These include:

  • Standing Orders
  • Financial Regulations
  • Code of Conduct
  • Other Council policies and protocols

The Council is principally funded through an annual precept, which forms part of local Council Tax. To ensure transparency and accountability, the Council’s finances are independently audited each year by both Internal and External Auditors, with results published on the website.

Working in Partnership

Illogan Parish Council is a member of a range of local and national organisations and advisory bodies. These partnerships provide valuable guidance, support, and opportunities to share best practice. The Council also works closely with Cornwall Council and other agencies to help deliver services and achieve positive outcomes for the community.

Committed to representing local people, protecting community assets, and supporting a thriving parish, Illogan Parish Council works to make Illogan a great place to live, work, and visit.
