Policy For The Inspection And Repair Of Roads Owned And Managed By Illogan Parish Council
Purpose
This policy sets out Illogan Parish Council’s approach to the inspection, maintenance and repair of any roads that are owned and managed by the Council and have not been adopted as public highway by Cornwall Council.
Inspections
The Council will carry out visual inspections of all roads for which it is responsible on a regular basis, and not less than twice each year. Additional inspections may be undertaken where concerns have been reported or where circumstances indicate that this is necessary.
Reporting Defects
Members of the public, residents and other stakeholders may report concerns, defects or issues relating to Council-managed roads. The Council will acknowledge and consider all reports within a reasonable timeframe and will assess any identified risks or maintenance requirements.
Maintenance and Repairs
The Council will seek to maintain its roads in a safe and serviceable condition, taking into account their intended use, available resources and any legal responsibilities. Where defects or deterioration are identified, the Council will determine the appropriate action and arrange repairs or other remedial works as necessary.
Record Keeping
The Council will keep appropriate records of inspections, reported defects, maintenance works and repairs carried out on roads for which it is responsible.
Review of Responsibilities
Should Illogan Parish Council assume ownership, management or maintenance responsibilities for any additional roads in the future, whether adopted or unadopted, this policy will apply to those roads unless otherwise determined by the Council.
